Springfield Township 2027 Budget Discussion — September 16 Board Meeting

Last Wednesday evening, the Springfield Township Board held its public meeting to discuss the proposed 2027 budget. Taxpayers were in attendance and asking good questions about specific line items, and I was glad to be among them.

One topic that stood out to me was the township's Need fund. This is a resource that exists to help Springfield Township residents, and my sense from the discussion is that it's underutilized. Not because the need isn't there, but because many residents may not even know it exists.

That's a transparency issue. If the township has resources available to help people, people should know about them. As your Trustee, making sure residents understand what's available to them would be a priority from day one.

Personally, I would rather see money moved between lines in an account to meet real need than sit here knowing there are people in our township who genuinely need help and aren't using it. That's stewardship, making sure resources go where they matter most.

I'd encourage any Springfield Township resident to attend future board meetings. It's your tax dollars, and you deserve to see how they're being put to work.
